HIGHLIGHTS. SINCE IT WAS FOUNDED IN 2000, THE FOUNDATION FOR A BETTER LIFE HAS EFFECTIVELY USED PRINT, TELEVISION, OUTDOOR, AND ONLINE MEDIA TO PASS IT ON. HERE ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS AND FACTS FROM OUR DIFFERENT CAMPAIGNS.

TELEVISION

Our television Public Service Announcements (PSAs) have been well received by the broadcast community and are being seen on over 800 TV stations, 25 national cable networks and 300 cable systems, in all 210 markets, and on 7 networks—including Spanish versions on Telemundo, CNN Spanish, OTI, FOX Español, and Univision. They are also being played in Portuguese and currently being distributed in Chinese on the Fairchild Network in Canada.  These spots are being seen in over 200 countries around the world thanks to the support of CNN International.  The spots have been viewed over 5.5 billion times, at an average of 2 million times a day, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The broadcast industry has recognized our campaign with the following awards for excellence:

We are using popular music to give our messages greater impact.  We appreciate the contributions of music from artists and writers including Backstreet Boys, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, Diane Warren, Brooks and Dunn, Kenny Loggins, Linda Perry, David Foster, Steppenwolf, Randy Travis, The Judds, Amy Grant, Aretha Franklin, Lee Ann Womack, Alabama, Bill Withers, and others.

THEATRE

These messages are also being played on over 8,000 screens at the United Artists, Regal, and Edwards Theatres, and have been viewed by theatre patrons over 500 million times.

BILLBOARDS

We have teamed with the Outdoor Advertising Association of America to communicate the values that make a difference in our communities. Our nationwide public service campaign was launched in 2001 on Times Square. The billboards now appear throughout the country. The Foundation for a Better Life pays production costs and a one-time posting fee, and the OAAA donates the billboard space, currently valued at $150 million. Posters of the billboards are sent out to schools nationwide at their request, compliments of the Foundation.

Our billboard participants include Muhammad Ali, Christopher Reeve, Wayne Gretzky, Shrek, Whoopi Goldberg, Michelle Kwan, Shaquille O’Neal, Kermit the Frog, Thomas Edison, Mother Teresa, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, The Incredibles, Benjamin Franklin, and other heroes of our time.

We have recently been recognized by the Outdoor Advertising Association of America as “the most successful public service campaign in outdoor history.”*

INTERNET

This site combines elements from all parts of the Foundation’s media outreach.  The 52 featured values allow visitors to read inspirational stories and quotes; view our television spots and see billboards related to corresponding values. “Good News” stories are brought in each day from around the world using 3,000 news sources which are sorted by value and archived. Subscribers can also receive daily “Inbox Inspirations,” a “Value of the Week,” and the monthly “Good Newsletter,” via email. Our objective is to give visitors a variety of uplifting resources and to make them available to teachers, parents, and anyone interested in these positive messages.

This campaign may not change the world, but it can make a difference.  After all, developing values and then passing them on to others is a Foundation for a Better Life.
